the parts are not really a concern they have a full supply of parts at there with 24/7 service. Granted that Tatra hasn't had any trials in WA. So its not well known. 2nd tatras can be customized if you buy the Chassis. you could easily have a 3.5 HSR with some customization. The 4x4 factor is proven and can handle any thing you can throw at it.

This serves as a option not attacking anyone's suggestion.

i reckon the FRS hino and vollie Isuzu's can deal with pretty much anything thrown at them, its more down to driver training and experience than anything. Even the old series 1 HSR's back in commission this summer are more than capable. I think the current 2.4s have a good weight/water capacity/4wd capability ratio, you start having a similar sized truck with an extra 3000 lt onboard and crews will struggle in sand and steep terrain.

Having said that the Tatra looks like a good appliance although i dont like the exhaust stack being located next to the transverse platform.

having said that i have no problems with the FSS 2.4R & 2.4U i've been in them both and its super comfortable. the only thing i recommended is a turbo. it gets sluggish up a hill.

quite agree
did my BFB 4WD driving course out by Little Grove in Albany
was stunned to see fully laden 2.4's going up rather steep sand-hills
yes it really does come down to training

even the Toyota Landcruiser fast attack with 1000 litres onboard
we did stall-out recoveries, you go up a steep sand-hill until it stalls completely
restart and back down
rather freaky at first but it is amazing just how far they go up a steep sand hill

A company around Perth called Welltech has Mercedes-Benz Axor's 1833 4 x 4. Nice looking units. They have a GVM of 18000kg's compared to the Isuzu FTS of 13000kg's. Would make a good (but expensive) unit. Saying that, the Isuzu's are a bloody good truck though!

  • Current Toyota Landcruisers carry 550L of water, not 1000. Older versions had anywhere from 500 - 600L.
  • Current 2.4Bs have actually 2600L of water on board. (Closer to a 3.4 than a 2.4)
  • FESA have no "preference" to any one company. It's based on a tender system. Technifire 2000 currently do the LTs. WA Fire Appliances and South West Fire Appliances are just two that manufacture heavier appliances for FESA at this point in time.

Even tho tatra would be a better choice for weight, power, ect.
It comes down to one simple thing. COST $$$$

They did a trail a few years ago between an isuzu, Hino and Tatra 2.4's
But for the cost of 1 tatra, they can also buy like 3 - 4 hinos or Isuzu's

So yeah there will never be a tatra truck in fesa unless someone wins lotto and donates on to there brigade

It sounds like a normal siren, but with the overlapping sounds of the Gingin West LT sounds completely different.

On a side note, Gingin West looks like it needs a new LT and which brigade is the 4 Door 1.4 from?
