Pulled into BP on Orrong Road in St James this morning (approx. 1:45am) and there were about 8 cop cars lined up. The boys in blue were having a chat/break. A number of marked vehicles, a few black SV6s.
Safest place in town right there and then. Any idea if this is part of the pay dispute?
Nah, nothing to do with the pay dispute, I've regularly seen unmarks in there or the 24hr shop in Rivervale late at night/early morning. Just central places to get a quick coffee and feed.
I'd be more than happy to shout the boys a brew. When I was doing mid daws (midnight to 6am) at Triple M before it went back to 96FM, I used to have the guys come up to the station, say hi and have a brew with me.

We spend more money there and have to pay for our coffee!
Another of life's little injustices!
But would or do you put your life on the line on a daily basis? Why shouldn't the police get a free coffee every now and then when they are on duty? I am sure when they are off duty they pay like the rest of us. I am also sure they dont expect to get things for free just because they are a police officer.

Ah I was only having a little fun! relax.
Incidentally, if getting knives, broken bottles, baseball bats, crossbows, and the like is dangerous, or life threatening, then yeah, I've put my 'life on the line' once or a hundred time.
Police officers also get free transport on all transperth services on or off duty . All they need to do is show their ID .
As a bus driver I am more than happy to welcome them aboard.
I know that when we have had big incidents as a firie, the locals have offered us refreshments. During one incident, a train derailment, the local bakery (which has since closed) has offered us free breakfast.
I'm sure that wasn't the first and won't be the last.
Some Mickey D's and Hj's do give discounts to firies and ambos as do some of the Muzz Buzz stores. Up to the relevant manager on duty at the particular facility.
