New head mounted cameras for WAPOL

Post by gkoutlis »

7 News Tonight at 6 -
Tonight in Seven News, see the new weapon for WA's frontline police - tiny video cameras mounted on their hats. The cameras are about to arrive in Perth and crime reporter David Cooper has an exclusive report.
What's your view on this ?? I personally think its a good idea - Good hard evidence in court...

I guess in a scuffle can be damaged broken lost how would they be recorded, id say would be more effective if mounted in the wapol vehicles.

* Traffic cars/bikes mounted on the dash
* GD vans in the back watching the POI
* CD vehicles

A good idea though.

Saw some vision on seven's news last night. Must say i thought the quality was very good for what it is. Worn over the ear like a 'bluetooth' and signal is recorded direct to hard drive worn on the officers vest or belt. Allegedly stores up to 400 hours. News report says other officers protect the officer wearing the cam while he shoots (i mean films 8) ), but that part seems like a waste of resources. 1 officer with camera, 1 or 2 officers protecting him, who's dealing with the 'incident' ??

More to that, a lot of the guys and gals carry a full belt. I would hope that they think strongly about Solid state disks too. Someone running with a convential Hard Drive would crash the heads into the disks big time.

if thats the case (one cop gas to be protected by other while filming) why not just use a regualr hand held cam with harddrive?
