Mitsubishi 380 - Work in progress :-)

Post by vk6hgr »

Hi Folks.

Some pics of my car. All the radios and antennas have been mounted securely without drilling any holes into the body or trim.

Image

RFI Mopole antenna for 2m (146Mhz) on the left and a ZCG UHF antenna on the right (438Mhz). Both antennas are ground independent.

Image

Closeup of antenna mount

Image

Mid band VHF antenna for firies. Connects to a Philips FM92 remote head mounted on the back aircon vent.

Image

Inside. Yaesu FT-8900R remote head mounted on the dash. Looks a bit off-centre in the photo but it's actually angled so the driver gets a good view of the screen.

Image

More pics to come when the job's done.

Looks great Gav. Wish I had my own car though, would love to have done mine up good when I still had the Magna :)

I am noticing an increased interest in listening to FESA, which I have *never* done.

Might start out with the online steam and if it's any good think about getting a nice VHF whip like yours and plugging it in to my scanner.

Thanks :)

I've still got a UHF CB to fit somewhere. Haven't figured out quite where yet.

Also need somewhere to put the mic(s). Trying to resist the temptation to pull the drill out and punch some holes in the dash to make it all easier! :-)

New cars are nice but they're a pain to radio up. Any ideas?

Arrr, just drill into it Gav... It's only new until you leave the Car Yard!

Yes, definately compliment on the other comment!

Did you have to do any convincing to allow so many radios and aerials?

Would uber-strong double-sided tape work (if such a thing exists)...

you could always get some mic brackets and mout your mics on the passengers side sun visor , they way there out of the way and you can easerly get a replacement visor when you take out the radios , btw how did you mount the radio head ? with out drilling holes?

Made some metal fingers and slid one of them in the space between two trim panels, and the other is double-sided taped down just in front of the car's screen.

The hot weather has taken its toll on regular tape so I'm going to have to find some of that stuff that's designed for car use.

Yeah. Might have to go for a walk through Bunnings and look-see. The idea behind using tape though is so it doesn't leave holes/marks :-)

Microphone can be stuck to the dash or wherever with no holes using magnetic mobile phone mounts. Clean area to be fitted with a small amount of turps then stick magnet in place. Fit metal strip that comes with it to the back of the Mic if needed(dont need to with my Icoms) Magnet is removeable and area cleanable after. Sticky on magnet can be replaced with mobile phone antenna pads as you change vehicles. Cheap as chips no holes and no scars. Another way is to use velcro hooks on the mic to the carpet.
