Sure he can. But wether its the right thing to do or what the users would enjoy is totally another thing.

WIA News

Post by vk6hsv »

Perhaps you young whipper snippers should listen to the news and learn something? and if an 8 year old boy scout can get a foundation licence and you cant what does that tell you?

Also PER01 does have an owner of the equipment but the repeater is maintained by The Northside Radio Association Inc

http://nra.org.au

If you have a problem with the way PER01 is run perhaps you should write a strongly worded letter to the committee, then again you could always goto another channel if you dont like it?

Better still why dont you try getting a repeater up and operational?

just my 2c

For what it's worth, I think the WIA News broadcast on PER01 provides CBers with a good opportunity to hear a little bit about amateur radio. Sure, AR won't interest everyone, but then that's true for everything in life.

If the repeater's owner and maintainer wants to devote 2 hours a week out of 168 in broadcasting the WIA News, then that leaves 166 other hours during the week for the people who aren't interested to use the repeater for other purposes.

It doesn't seem like a big ask - the repeater is being provided by the NRA at no cost to the people of Perth's northern suburbs, so if you ain't paying for a service, you can't very well complain can you? :)

Hmm.. that just about sums it up lol. If he did a pole and asked all the users of the repeater, he would see no one is interested and its a waste of time. If we wanted to listen to it we would go get our ammature licence. I mean.. its pretty much inbedded into our skulls now how to do so.

Caught the WIA News this evening on both PER01 and PER08.

Both sounded pretty good from my QTH in the eastern suburbs, providing I was standing out in the back yard. But then what do you expect with a crappy Uniden handheld :P

If you havent already become a member of The NRA Membership is only $12 a year (Longer meberships are available) and your membership fees go towards the cost of the rental of where the repeaters are currently located. The NRA is currently looking for any new members that can help out by becoming a member.

CB radio is just that..CB. its all about power games and abusing anyone and everyone.. trust me i know.. i spent many emebriated hours doing so. and im sure the "owner" knows all about it. its just no fun any more..

all we need now is a WIA news link to ch3 and you could listen to it in "surround sound"
