Channel 18 UHF CB
Channel 18 UHF CB
Hi all,
I was scanning on my handheld tonight and heard what appears to be some kind of a simplex repeater that is running on Channel 18. It has a acknowledgement tone when you key it up.
I asked for a radio check then asked who I was talking to and a person came back saying they were located in Perth.
Not long ago, I heard a rumor that there was some kind of illegal clone or similar setup of IRLP (http://www.irlp.net) running on UHF CB. Can anyone confirm if this is what I stumbled across?
Does anyone also know where the transmission is coming from? I was using a GME TX6000 5w handheld and am located in Hocking, northern suburbs. The signal was very weak but they could hear me ok.
Cheers
Bonez

I think it's someone using eQSO. Very strong signal here.Bonez wrote:I was scanning on my handheld tonight and heard what appears to be some kind of a simplex repeater that is running on Channel 18. It has a acknowledgement tone when you key it up.
Regardless - Internet gateway or simplex repeater, it's against the rules.

Whether anything gets done about this depends on how much ACMA cares... which isn't much

Nah. Whether it hurts anyone is up to whoever regularly uses channel 18, but to connect the radio to the computer would require the radio to be modified somehow, which would cause the radio to no longer be type approved.Lucas_arts_182 wrote:ive been told its legal , besides its not hurting anyone so who cares
Using non-type approved radios on CB is against the CB class license.

Interesting. With all that work it makes me wonder why they don't get an amateur license, where doing this is perfectly legal...celestial_insight wrote:I'm not up to date with eQSO here, but I just found this :

Ha, I get to quote myself! Anyway, I asked the question and was told :celestial_insight wrote:I'm not up to date with eQSO here, but I just found this :

eQSO link on CH18 is in Brigadoon. Which is connected to the Internet then to Rockingham CH17, CH25 Kalamunda, CH 29 Coolingup and Ch27 in Bunbury, Also to the UK ,NZ and Canada.
Really connects around doesn't it? I'm not entirely sure, but I guess that someone on channel 27 in Bunbury could talk to someone on 25 in Kalamunda? Quite a system.
EDIT : Someone members wanna try it?
Its apart of a gateway connected to the internet. That repeater you key up on 18 is located in brigadoon which is connected to the net and goes through a program called PMR radio which connects heaps of RPT's all around the world, together. You will hear stations from the UK on there late at night. The links on channels such as 18 are to allow CBers to talk international such repeaters / links exist on other channels in the 20's too

Yes I’m in Bunbury and I heard some Morse code on 27.
Nobody answered
So what do you do? Do you need two radios for it or just transmit on the one channel (27)

Legal Transmissions
G'day,
This is run by my mate and it is 100% legal because my mate is a VK6 operator and this how you can QSO around the world anyone who does not conforms to the rules is muted by the owner of the gateway incidentally one has be setup in Kunnurra so if you get the software and register your callsign your on the air.
The mate who owns the repeater is Russ and he is on 17 UHF CB
Pat

The difference is key.Avtur50_exVet wrote:G'day,

You can do it on amateur radio, you can't on CB.
The fact that ACMA haven't done anything about it yet tells me about how much they care about enforcing the Radiocommunications Act and the CB Radio Service class license
