This is absolutely tragic...at the moment in Victoria 14 confirmed dead but fears it may be over 40 in total. Also 100 homes lost and the fires are still burning.

I don't know what to say here.
Words fail the feeling of loss I am experiencing and the apprehension that fellow firefighters (somehow they are more family than the general public) might've copped it.
I'm ex RFS so I will fill post some NSW stuff tomorrow once I get it all together.

I think the word 'helplessness' describes it best

And Queensland got enough water over the last few days to put those fires a thousand times over

Those with iiNet, ABC News Radio is rebroadcasting ABC Melbourne (or of course, do it the old fashioned way and listen on the radio).

As well as the photos, there's some links to some sites in that thread as well, reproduced here as it's not in an area of Whirlpool that's publicly viewable:meg wrote:If any of you are Whirlpool members, there are some photos posted in a thread there

Re: Fires in Vic, SA and NSW Feb 09
All - can I suggest that you leave the stream alone for people who really need to get fire info? If it fills up their bandwidth with peeps from WA, then the VIctorians can't get through... I'm sure most of you have an old AM radio sitting around somewhere and you'll get exactly the same audio from thatZebedee wrote:

Guy from Ambulance Victoria just on.. doesn't sound good for some areas that they cant get into yet. Up to 1000 people in one of them and having to bulldoze in or use helicopters..
Re: Fires in Vic, SA and NSW Feb 09
I'd say this is true of the CFA website - they've actually made comment on ABC News Radio for people elsewhere to not use it. The info on the CFA scanner stream really isn't a resource the 'general public' would be able to understand (or is being advertised)meg wrote:All - can I suggest that you leave the stream alone for people who really need to get fire info? Re: Fires in Vic, SA and NSW Feb 09
From what I can tell, the "CFA Stream" site isn't affiliated directly with the CFA, it's a discussion forum site like ours, which also has streaming audio from various CFA channels, much like we have the FESA/WAERN stream.
As best I can figure, it's not a site that's providing essential emergency information to Victorians like the ABC and official sites like the CFA etc are.
