Deployable Scanner idea
Just had a thought. It might be a good idea to build a small remotely operable scanner with a 3G modem, battery, and a small solar panel in a case. For things like the fires in Esperance, and other remote areas, all someone has to do is just turn it on and leave it on the roof or in a secure, sunny ...

Re: Antenna question
Eh. Put a mobile scanner onto the 12v system. My pushbike has a 12v main bus.

Re: Antenna question
Thanks Steve Certainly looks like it's an expensive hobby to get set up for the first time. I would hate to buy a decent antenna, cable and amp only to find that there just isn't enough to listen to in my area. :) That's why I got a decent handheld scanner. Plugs into an adaptor at home, or runs of...

Re: News: Defence tests Wideband HF Radio for data transfer
Remember, Defence gets a very good budget, so I doubt they'd care too much!

That speed could replace satellite internet for marine use.

Mind you, Ebay is very good about making sure sellers are honest.
If your item does not arrive, it gets refunded within 3 days if the seller does not respond.

Thanks Helimedic, just two quick questions;
Will Rescue 651 be sponsored by the RAC? What manufacturer made the aircraft.

Re: Police, firies set to lose hard fought spectrum fight
There is a reason that we need that spectrum. In a state of emergency, that infrastructure gets overloaded, and goes down. We need to rely on our own gear.

Re: WA grants major planning exemptions for towers
Good. I'm sick and tired of useless idiots blocking necessary and required infrastructure. The classic optus deadspot in Lesmurdie is a good example. Optus wanted to build a discreet tower to counter a fairly large area of no coverage. It was blocked by elderly residents citing EMF "health conc...

SJA Volunteer First Aid - Analog Frequencies
Hi folks, I've noticed that SJA VFA's have analog vertex radios. The same as our SES handhelds.
Anyone know what they operate on? I've tried scanning the old SJA frequencies during events like the footy, but no dice.

Correct. They also are assigning us some VHF channels!
In addition, 6AR/6IP want us to announce our activations/deactivations. You'll hear me as Kalamunda SES PC2 mainly.

Re: St John Ambulance
Mate, I would say that one big vehicle is safer than 10 ambulances in convoy. And cheaper too!
One vehicle, one driver, 10 patients is a good idea.
