Can't hurt - if it's dead quiet then we can use our special admin powers to consolidate threads back into General.

But as you say - with the amount of interest in Trunking, it'll probably be worth putting up a separate category for people to post in.

32. WHY ARE THERE TWO FREQUENCIES ON SOME OF THE LISTS (RX and TX) AND WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE? Radio frequencies in the UHF and VHF range are basically "line of sight" or strictly point to point. If something gets in the way, such as a hill or a building, the radios can't "see" e...

That has happened here in Perth as well. I remember following (on the scanner) a similar procession down the Great Northern Highway past Bullsbrook and all the way to RPH with police cars blocking intersections to give a country ambulance clear passage for a spinal patient. The logistics of making i...

OK the scanner was a Uniden UBC3000XLT with the normal BNC type connector for the antenna. I bought a base with lead kit and attached the base to th...

Yep you're right, radios and repeaters use the TX and RX frequencies in different ways.

This is probably best answered in the FAQ section of the forums. I'll try and put something semi-coherent together later tonight.

JG, I've got the Scantenna It's a screw-on type which was mounted on the back of my car. Was a good all-round antenna for the scanner. The Scantenna Base is slightly different, but more or less the same idea. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that the Base version is a ground-independent antenna...

"Shepherd 1" is the Rev Barry May. He used to be a police officer before becoming an Anglican minister (and the chaplain to the WA Police).

The ABC did a story on him in January 2004 on the Compass programme. The transcript is here if anyone's interested...

Absolutely. The design of the bug and the technology isn't the issue, it's what people choose to do with it. I'm sure you could use that design to make a "baby monitor" or something similar. However it's always useful to know just what the law says you can and can't do. As this is a site t...
