Lets just say you don't want a flat battery when you need to go to a fire.

Someone else can elaborate but I believe thats the gist of it.

Yep trickle battery charger, so you don't have that embarrassing moment when you cant get the truck out of the shed! Probably not really needed on career stations but volly stations need them as the vehicle might sit for a week without being used and the battery will slowly die.

Great photos too, very modern and flash looking units. Any photos of inside the cab? I would think they would have alot of gizmo's and that in there? Also what sort of things are kept in the SET, i know they have alot of BA cylinders and i think a air compressor for filling them but what other toys?

From previous discussions with Firies, I don't think they do have a compressor, but they have cylinders, Big BA tag on boards, Portable showers for hazmat, probably have Peatsorb or what ever...on second thoughts wait out and I'll email and find out.

Doesn't the powercord also provide auxilary power to the radio comms in the truck 24/7 for busy stations like Ozzie Park and Perth??

Hope valley is not a series 4 it is in fact a Heavy pump though it looks like a series 4. The new heavy pumps that are rolling out will be similar in look to that of hope valley. A series 4 is a Medium pump.

i was once told that firetrucks actually have heating elements in the engine oil sump that ensure the engine oil is always at optimum operating temperature so when they are responding to incidents the trucks arent 'starting cold'.... This is what i have been told and i figured it would make damn good sense....

cheers

Some overseas (thinking US) crews have them on guide rails so they actually *can* drive off with them still attached and they automatically quick release. I'll try and find the vid.
