Discussion: Streaming FESA scanner radio

Post by vk6hgr »

Hi All.

I have a receiver set up on channel 57 FESA which is now streaming out to the Internet.

Further information is in the Annoucement thread

Thanks to everyone who has helped me test it. Please PM me if there are problems.

Here are some photos:

Image

This is the lead in from the outdoor antenna (thick cable, top) to a receive preamplifier that bumps the signal up about 16dB before being split off to my own monitoring receiver and the streaming receiver.

This is the streaming radio. A 20 year old Philips FM93 sitting on the floor, waiting to be put in the rack. :-)

Hi Folks.

The scanner is off the air today, Friday 18/5, as it appears as though the server has a faulty network card.

It appears to have fixed itself and for now it's working again.

If you're having trouble connecting, try pinging stream.warsug.info
If you get no reply then the server is having troubles.

Cheers Gav :)

Would love to have this sitting in the background when i'm at work but unfortunately streaming media is blocked, and even though I'm a domain admin and have passwords for all the servers/appliances I haven't quite figured out how to play with the firewall box :)

Anyway, for now I shall listen from home whenever I can. It's a whole new type of lingo for me to learn!

I didn't try with VLC but I just tried and it connects OK with Winamp.

Make that a broken hard disk and a bad network card. Ugh. I hate computers sometimes. Really. I do :smt068

Yay for RAID. The faulty disk in the set was causing all sorts of grief, which may be why the network was acting up. We just have to try swapping out spare hardware until it becomes stable... so the stream is still in Beta testing folks :-)

One thing about the stream I forgot to mention... the stream has a 5 hour connection limit. If you get disconnected due to the timer you are able to immediately reconnect though.
